AACC Past President's Award

This award is given each year to the AACC's immediate past president to honor his or her important contributions to the field of clinical laboratory science throughout his or her career and to acknowledge the recipient's many contributions to the AACC.

Although historical records do not indicate when the award originated, AACC's Past Presidents, and the year in which they served as AACC President, are listed below.

Congratulations to the 2022 Winner

David Grenache

David G. Grenache, PhD, DABCC

Dr. Grenache earned his PhD in biomedical sciences from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, Massachusetts, and completed postdoctoral training in clinical chemistry at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Clinical Chemistry and a Fellow in the AACC Academy.

He is the chief scientific officer for TriCore Reference Laboratories in Albuquerque, New Mexico. In that role, he leads the TriCore Research Institute which performs clinical device trials, offers central lab services, and maintains a sample biorepository. He is also the laboratory director of TriCore’s centralized flagship Core Laboratory, the medical director of immunology and of point-of-care testing, and a clinical professor of pathology at the University of New Mexico.

Dr. Grenache’s term as president coincided with the coronavirus pandemic of 2020 and, as such, he helped lead the association through a period of turbulence and uncertainty. Despite the disruptions, AACC did not waiver from its mission of providing global leadership in advancing the practice and profession of clinical laboratory science and medicine. Indeed, as the world turned its attention to the myriad of coronavirus tests and their use, AACC helped clinical laboratory professionals step front and center onto the healthcare stage.

Dr. Grenache became a member of AACC in 1994 and has been actively engaged in the association’s leadership for the past 25 years. He helped create the Society for Young Clinical Laboratorians and served as its first chair, he was a member of several Annual Meeting Organizing Committees and chaired that committee in 2018. He has served on the Nominating Committee, the Board of Directors, and was the AACC secretary prior to becoming president.
